iReady Fall, Winter, and Spring Scores: Complete Parent Guide

iReady Fall, Winter, and Spring scores help parents understand how a student is performing in reading and mathematics throughout the school year. Because student performance can change with instruction and practice, results from different testing periods can provide useful information about academic progress. Parents should always compare a score with the correct grade, subject, and testing season.

iReady reports information such as a scale score, placement level, national percentile, and growth. Together, these results can help families identify strengths, understand learning gaps, and see how a child is progressing.

For the 2026–2027 school year, parents may notice a new name on school reports. Curriculum Associates is changing iReady Diagnostic to iReady Inform for both reading and mathematics. The new name reflects the assessment’s main purpose: giving teachers, students, and families useful information that can guide instruction and learning decisions.

Is iReady Inform a Different Test?

The change from iReady Diagnostic to iReady Inform is primarily a rebrand, not the introduction of an entirely unrelated assessment. Curriculum Associates says the assessment will continue to provide valid and reliable data, familiar reports, and instructional support. A shorter assessment option will also be available during the 2026–2027 school year, responding to requests from educators to reduce testing time while preserving useful results.

This means families may see both names during the transition:

iReady Diagnostic
iReady Inform
iReady Inform, formerly iReady Diagnostic

The important point is that the assessment still measures reading and mathematics performance and helps schools determine what students know and where additional support may be needed.

Understanding Fall iReady Scores

Fall testing provides an early look at a student's academic performance for the school year.

Parents can use Fall results as a starting point for understanding the student's scale score, national percentile, and placement. The result can also provide a baseline that may be useful when reviewing progress later in the year.

A Fall score should be compared with Fall information for the student's grade and subject.

Understanding Winter iReady Scores

Winter testing provides another opportunity to review student performance after additional classroom instruction and learning.

Parents can compare Winter results with earlier Fall results to see whether the student has made progress. The scale score, percentile, placement, and growth information can all provide useful context.

Winter results should be compared with the appropriate Winter norms rather than directly with Fall comparison data.

Understanding Spring iReady Scores

Spring testing provides information about student performance later in the school year.

Parents can review Spring results alongside Fall and Winter results to understand how performance changed during the year. This can help families and teachers discuss progress and possible learning goals.

As with other results, Spring scores should be interpreted using the correct grade, subject, and testing period.

Why Testing Season Matters

iReady scores can change throughout the school year because students continue learning and developing new skills.

This is why a score should not be viewed in isolation. A result should be compared with the correct testing season.

The three main testing periods are:

Fall
Winter
Spring

Using the correct season makes it easier to understand how a student's performance compares with the relevant national comparison group.
